Despite runaway spending and misplaced budget priorities, the Riverside Party/Caucus says we don’t need a budget audit.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants for a failed TIF and a rezoning that has failed to revitalize our downtown. Hundreds of thousands of dollars more to purchase two properties on Burlington. Tens of thousands of dollars refunded to a developer because the village mishandled permits. And thousands of dollars for the village manager’s car, insurance, gas for professional and personal use, and even car washes. But according to the Riverside Party/Caucus, we don’t need a budget audit. Kevin Smith called the last eight years a “golden age” for the Village Board. And Kelly Navarro said the current board has been doing an “excellent job.”
The choice is clear: real change and fiscal responsibility from the Riverside Community Alliance, or more of the same from the Riverside Party/Caucus.
Riverside can do better than TIFs, tax increases and empty storefronts.
The Caucus-backed Village Board has had its chance. Their ideas? A failed TIF, tax and fee increases and high-density development that hasn’t attracted businesses. It’s time for a change. We need new ideas and new plans. It’s time to make the change to Riverside Community Alliance.

Only one group stood up for Riverside residents.
Only the Riverside Community Alliance stood up for residents against the TIF and the 2008 property tax increase – while others running for Village Board, including Kevin Smith (two pro-tax signs in his yard) and David Lesniak, supported it.

Who do you trust with Riverside’s budget?
The Riverside Party/Caucus, who says that we don’t need a line-by-line budget audit, or the Riverside Community Alliance, who has been advocating for smarter spending and budgeting for years?

There is a difference…

We stood up for residents against the TIF & tax increase
This April, we stand for positive change and lower taxes
We’re Riverside Community Alliance. We fought for Riverside residents during the TIF, and we fought for fiscal responsibility to defeat last year’s property tax increase. And on the Village Board, you can count on us to continue to hold the line on taxes and runaway spending without sacrificing services to residents.
With us, you know what you will get: fiscal responsibility, new ideas to bring more businesses to downtown Riverside and open, transparent government.
Our opponents, the Riverside Party, were selected to run and are endorsed by the Riverside Caucus, the same group that selected, endorsed and supported every member of the current Village Board. The Riverside Party/Caucus ticket is led by a Trustee who has pledged to continue the policies of the current Village Board, who supported the TIF and property tax increase and supports “home rule,” which allows the Board to increase our property taxes without resident input. Another member of the ticket publicly declared his support for last year’s property tax increase.
The Riverside Party/Caucus ticket will continue to try to raise our taxes via ‘home rule’. The Riverside Community Alliance will not. If you want lower taxes, the choice is clear: Riverside Community Alliance.
This April 7, Riverside has a real choice for Village Board: more of the same from the Caucus, or new, proven leadership for positive change.
